Prioritizing Financial Sovereignty
Nov 13, 2024What a weird week, Queens.
As a woman in the business of empowering other women, I would be remiss to not speak up about the political climate in our country. If you are fearful, I see you. Attacks on our bodily autonomy, civil liberties and financial sovereignty are real, and TOTALLY F*Ck&D up, but we can, and will, persevere.
One thing I hold as an absolute truth about women is that we are strong and resilient, and in true sisterhood we are a force to be reckoned with. So let’s keep the conversation high vibe and solution-oriented, and talk about two ways to empower ourselves. As per usual, I have strategies.
First and foremost, let’s talk about intentional spending. This is the “work smarter, not harder” solution where you empower yourself to hold onto the money that you make, and that means getting real about your purchasing habits. The majority of the impulse purchases that I work with clients to unravel are unnecessary, don't align with their authentic style, and ultimately dilute their wardrobe joy.
As someone who has struggled with excessive spending on handbags and shoes, I caution you. Do not fall into the Carrie Bradshaw “I like my money right where I can see it…hanging in my closet.” trap because, as the story goes, she spent her time waiting around for Mr. Big to save her, and that is not a power move.
To clarify, I am not talking about refraining from celebrating yourself, because you deserve a wardrobe that fully supports your lifestyle. What I am suggesting is that you trim the fat in the name of financial sovereignty. You can absolutely have a SOUL-ALIGNED wardrobe without that waste and be on a path to building financial freedom. And Queen, nothing says liberation like a solid emergency fund sitting in a high-yield savings account.
Side Note: If you are truly trapped on the merry-go-round of impulse purchasing, I got you. Aligned Style Method® has an entire module on Internal Conscious Purchasing, and I am creating a free masterclass (dropping December 1st) to empower women into Intentional Spending, because knowledge is power, and sharing is caring :).
Secondly, let’s talk about the incredible spending power of women, as we represent over 31 trillion dollars globally and more than 85% of purchases in the United States. Those numbers are astounding - I mean, nothing says power in this capitalist society like consumer spending - and can absolutely be harnessed to empower women financially.
My CALL TO ACTION: filter your spending to support women-owned businesses.
I did an entire Instagram series in the summer of 2023 where I highlighted ways to show up for women. From women-owned apparel, accessories, wineries and restaurants, to photographers, boutique owners, beauty insiders and healers…the list could go on and on. It was super easy to do, it felt great to anchor into my values, and I found some really amazing coffee shops to boot!

Personally, I am pledging to deepen my feminist roots so we can all rise together, and I endeavor to continue to support women in stepping into their fullest, most authentic expression of self. I am also putting my money where my mouth is, and encourage you to do the same.
If you are with me, I would love to hear from you!
