Invitation to Play

Jan 29, 2025
Whenever I start to feel the impulse to purchase,  I take it as an invitation to play in my closet.

Self-awareness was the key to tempering my shopping addiction, and in recovery I realized that my restlessness typically stems from moving too fast in the world and not taking time for my own self-care.

Having too many commitments and not enough time for creativity feels heavy to me.
Play shifts me back into abundance.

And, since I really enjoy fashion (and have a client-facing role in the industry), I feel more energized when I show up in a look that reflects my personal style evolution. Emanating those high-vibes is part of the gig, and helps to set the tone for really expansive appointments.

I truly believe that creativity begets creativity, and this “play time” is totally time well spent, because I feel refreshed, more prepared for all of the events on my calendar, and more inspired during styling appointments.

When I find myself scrolling on social or adding to cart, I practice the pause, by slowing down and giving myself the space to reconnect with the pieces I already own. Most of the time I don’t need more THINGS, I just need to put fresh eyes on what is already hanging in my closet. And, in the instance that a worthwile addition is revealed, I know what to focus on sourcing.

If you struggle with impulse purchasing, building awareness around your triggers - and creating strategies to shift yourself into intention - can be a really great place to start.
